Owner and Winemaker, Joe Dobbes
Passionate, creative, driven to excellence in his art
Joe Dobbes is the consummate winemaker. A true Oregonian, he was raised in a small town in the north Willamette Valley and educated in Ashland. Yet his calling began outside Oregon, in Germany and France, where Joe spent two and a half years learning the art and science of winemaking. He apprenticed at Wiengut Erbhof Tesch, in the German Nahe region, and at Domaine G. Roumier and Domaine Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, France, with winemasters Christophe Roumier and Dominique Lafon. Joe returned to Oregon and applied his knowledge, experience, and passion for winemaking immediately.
Joe is passionate about bringing forth the natural characteristics of the grapes and letting the flavors and aromas tell the story of their quality upbringing. Joe fervently believes that the quality of wine starts in the vineyard. From early spring until harvest Joe scrutinizes the vines, selecting the best sites and clones, as well as crop loads. Joe’s objective is to produce wines true to their varietal character with as much depth, elegance, opulence and balance of flavor possible. Yet he creates an artful synergy of power and grace in his wines. Our wines are beautifully fruited, rich with aromas and often have a faint impression of sweetness on the palate due to ripe tannins and fruit.
Creating his dreams through pure drive and an insatiable passion for his art, Joe Dobbes will continue to produce excellence and value through each of his distinct labels.
